Candle care and safety advice:
To get the very best performance from our container candles, follow this simple advice:
When lighting the candle for the first time, allow it to burn until you can see a full melt pool extending out to the sides of the container. This will take between one and three hours depending on the size of the container.
If your wooden wicks (crackle sticks) go out after lighting, gently remove the fully burned top and relight them immediately.
Before re-lighting, trim your wick to about half a centimetre for small & medium candles and about one centimetre for our larger candles and candles with crackle sticks.
It is important to remove any thickening (mushrooming) from the tip, this will prevent ‘sooting’ and uneven burn.
Clear out any debris from the surface of the wax.
After burning, replace the lid when cooled to keep the fragrance fresh and intense for the next time you use it.
When the candle has finally burned away, the canister can be reused. Remove as much unburned wax with tissue paper and dispose in your bin, then use a damp cloth & warm water to remove any remaining residue. Finally, dry the can thoroughly and it’s ready to reuse!
The waxes we use are plant based, water soluble and completely biodegradable – but it’s probably best not to clean your containers near food preparation areas as the fragrances we use are long lasting and can easily be transferred to surfaces.
Safety, safety, safety!
Each of our container candles has a safety label attached: Here’s an explanation of the icons used.
In addition, we advise:
- Candles should not be placed on heat sources.
- Container candles can get quite hot, so it’s best to place them on a coaster to protect surfaces from heat damage.
- Never burn a candle longer than 4 hours at a time, this minimises the risk of over-heating and sooting behaviour.
- Always keep a candle upright, on a firm and level surface.
- Do not place in a draught.
- Only use tealights in holders with sufficient ventilation around them.
- Never move a burning candle.
- Never use liquid to extinguish the flame.
All the fragrances we use are IFRA compliant, phthalate, paraben, silicon and PEG free, and within all safety limits set by EU regulations.
Care and safety advice: Candle & tea light holders
Our candle holders are easy to look after. There’s no need to use cleaning chemicals, abrasive scourers or lots of water to clean them, a light dusting with a soft cloth and a little furniture polish is all you’ll need to keep them looking great.
When lit, apply the same precautions as you would with any other candle. Always ensure they are placed on a firm, flat surface away from flammable materials, children and pets.
Care for our environment
We do everything we can to reduce our impact on the environment. Wherever possible we source local supplies. We have adopted the mantra “Reduce, reuse and recycle” so will always prefer to use recycled, or recyclable materials.
When choosing supplies, we always opt for those that have minimal environmental impact: our waxes and fragrances are as natural and safe as possible and fully biodegradable. We also choose our candle containers for their ability to be repurposed or reused after use.
